5 Easter Dental Tips to Keep Kids’ Teeth Healthy
Easter is a time for friends, family, and a basketful of fun! Unfortunately, it can also be a time when kids indulge in an overabundance of sugary treats like chocolate eggs and jelly beans. Here are 5 tips to keep kids’ teeth healthy this Easter and all year-round!
Brush Twice a Day: Doing so will help remove plaque and bacteria from their mouth, which can lead to cavities and other problems down the line. Ensure your child brushes for a full two minutes each time, and use fluoride toothpaste.
Floss Regularly: Flossing is vital for good dental hygiene, because it removes food particles and plaque from between teeth where toothbrushes can’t reach. Even if your child isn’t old enough to floss on their own yet (generally around age 8-10), you should still help them floss at least once a day until they can do it themselves.
Limit Sugary Foods & Drinks: Sugary foods are one of the main culprits in cavities, so try to limit how much candy your child eats this Easter. If they indulge in sugary snacks or drinks, brush their teeth immediately afterwards, or rinse out their mouths with water to help remove any remaining sugar residue left behind by the snack.
Use Fluoride Mouthwash: You can help strengthen your child’s enamel by using a fluoride mouthwash once per day after brushing their teeth (but not before).
Visit the Dentist Regularly: Regular preventive care visits are essential for keeping kids’ smiles healthy year-round—not just during Easter! Make sure your children visit the dentist every six months (or as recommended by your dentist) for checkups and cleanings, so any potential issues can be caught early on before they become bigger problems down the line.
